“Sister” Clubs Support Each Other and Their Communities

When Hurricane Irene hit the northeast in Augutst 2011 it didn’t  spare the picturesque community of Schoharie, NY, nor the local AMA club, the Schoharie Valley Crop Dusters.  Scores of Schohaire homes were destroyed or damaged, as was the club’s flying field.  Through an AMA Club Disaster Grant and the generosity of  members, friends and neighboring clubs, the Schoharie Valley Crop Dusters have rebuilt their flying site, so once again members and friends can enjoy model aviation with families and the community.

As one of their annual traditions, the Schoharie Valley Crop Dusters have long shared fun fly dates  with the Lazy Eight of Johnston, NY.  Each year the clubs set aside two days to host each other at their respective fields.  As could be expected, one of the clubs that assisted the Schoharie Valley Crop Dusters after Hurricane Irene was the Lazy Eight.  This gave special significane on June 24 when the Schoharie Valley Crop Dusters hosted the Lazy Eight, at the newly rebuilt Schohaire flying field for food, flying and a fun day! Both the Schoharie Valley Crop Dusters and the Lazy Eight are well known for involvement in their communities. It’s wonderful to see these two deserving clubs take a few moments to relax and enjoy the day together.  See photo coverage of the event on the District II Photostream.
